We thank the SPVM for having a special task force to target hate crimes and hate incidents.
WHAT IS A HATE CRIME?
A hate crime is a CRIMINAL offence.
A crime is considered hate when it is motivated or suspected of being motivated by hatred of race, national or ethnic origin, language, or religion.
Examples of hate crimes:
• Drawing a swastika.
• Making threats to a person because they are Jewish.
• Physically attacking a person because of the colour of his or her skin.
Report a hate crime by calling 911 at the scene or by going to your local police station.

WHAT IS A HATE INCIDENT?
A hate incident is a NON CRIMINAL act, which could affect the feeling of security of a person or an identifiable group of people whom, given the context may be perceived as such because of race, national or ethnic origin, language, color, religion, sex, age, sexual orientation or gender identity or expression or a disability in particular. Insulting or offending a person due to their social status, in person or on social networks.
Examples of hate incidents:
• Distributing offensive and unsettling material targeting a Jewish group.
• Insulting or abusing a person due to them being Jewish.
• Committing vexatious acts against a person due to them being Jewish.
How to report
Report a hate crime by calling 911 at the scene or by going to your local police station.
